Downloading and Printing Your QR Code

Updated 2026-04Essential reading

Once a passport is activated, the GS1 Digital Link QR code is available to download from the passport detail page. This article covers download, print specifications, and testing.

Downloading the QR code

On the passport detail page (Active or Registered status), scroll to the GS1 Digital Link QR Code section. Click Download QR Code PNG. The file downloads as a high-resolution PNG image.

The download includes:

  • The QR code image at 1200ร—1200 pixels (suitable for print up to 150mm).
  • A white quiet zone around the QR code (required by the GS1 standard).
  • The resolved URL printed below the QR code in small text.

For battery labels, the QR code must be:

SpecificationRequirement
Minimum size15mm ร— 15mm (including quiet zone). GS1 recommends 20mm minimum for reliable scanning.
Quiet zoneMinimum 4 modules (the width of 4 of the smallest squares in the QR pattern) of white space on all sides. The downloaded PNG includes this.
ContrastDark modules on a light background. Minimum 40% contrast ratio. Black on white is safest.
DurabilityThe QR code must remain scannable for the expected lifetime of the battery. Use labels rated for the battery's operating environment (temperature, UV exposure, chemical resistance).
PlacementThe QR code must be on the battery itself or on packaging that cannot be separated from the battery at the point of customs inspection.
โš ๏ธGTIN is permanent after activation

The GTIN encoded in your GS1 Digital Link QR code cannot be changed without reprinting your battery labels. If you discover a GTIN error after activation, you must revoke the passport, create a new one with the correct GTIN, and reprint labels. Check your GTIN before activating.

Testing the QR code

Before committing to a production print run:

1

Print a test label

Print the QR code at your intended size on your intended label material.

1

Scan with a phone camera

Open the camera app on a smartphone and point it at the printed QR code. The GS1 Digital Link URL should appear and open the public DPP viewer in a browser.

1

Verify the passport loads

Confirm the correct passport data appears on the public viewer. Check the battery name, passport number, and manufacturer.

1

Test at distance

Scan from the distance a customs officer would typically scan โ€” approximately arm's length (30โ€“50cm). If the QR code doesn't scan reliably, increase the print size.

๐Ÿ’กTest print run before production

Order a small batch of test labels before committing to a full production run. Test scanning in the actual environment where the battery will be inspected โ€” warehouse lighting, label adhesion, and scanning angle all affect reliability.
