Battery Categories: EV, Industrial, and LMT
DPP Cloud organises passports by battery category. The category you select when creating a passport determines the required Annex XIII fields, the compliance deadline, and the data schema.
The three in-scope categories
EV Battery โ Traction batteries designed for the propulsion of electric vehicles, with a capacity above 2 kWh. This is the broadest category and has the most Annex XIII fields. Compliance deadline: 18 February 2027.
Industrial Battery >2 kWh โ Batteries designed for industrial applications with a capacity exceeding 2 kWh. Includes stationary energy storage, UPS systems, and grid-scale batteries. Compliance deadline: 18 August 2027.
LMT Battery โ Batteries for light means of transport (e-bikes, e-scooters, and similar light electric vehicles) above 2 kWh. LMT batteries are classified under the Industrial category in DPP Cloud with an LMT sub-type selector. Compliance deadline: 18 February 2027.
Selecting the category in DPP Cloud
When you create a new passport, Step 1 of the wizard asks you to select the battery type. You will see two cards: EV Battery and Industrial Battery. Each card shows the compliance deadline.
If your battery is an LMT battery, select Industrial Battery and then choose the LMT sub-type in Step 2. The field requirements will adjust accordingly.
Once you create a passport, the battery category is permanently locked. This is because the category determines the entire field schema โ changing it would invalidate the data structure. If you selected the wrong category, create a new passport with the correct one.
Which category has more fields?
EV batteries have the most extensive Annex XIII requirements because the regulation places the heaviest compliance burden on the automotive sector. Industrial batteries share most of the same fields but have fewer performance-related requirements. LMT batteries have a reduced field set focused on safety and sustainability.
The exact field requirements for each category are documented in the Annex XIII field reference articles.
