Getting Your EU Operator ID
Every economic operator submitting battery passports to the EU DPP Registry needs an Operator ID issued by the European Commission. This article explains how to get one and where to enter it in DPP Cloud.
What the Operator ID is
The EU Operator ID is a unique identifier assigned to your organisation when you register as an economic operator with the European Commission. It links your organisation to the passports you create and submit. The registry uses it to verify that the submitting party is a legitimate, registered operator.
The ID format is alphanumeric, typically structured as: EU-OP-YYYY-XX-NNNN (e.g., EU-OP-2026-TC-7842).
How to register
The Commission's operator registration process is expected to open in advance of the July 2026 registry launch. Registration involves:
Visit the EU DPP operator registration portal
The European Commission will publish the registration portal URL on the Single Market Economy website. DPP Cloud will add a direct link to the Settings page when the portal opens.
Register your organisation
Provide your company details: legal name, registered address, EU VAT number (if applicable), and economic operator role (Manufacturer, Importer, Authorised Representative, or Distributor).
Receive your Operator ID
After registration is confirmed, you will receive your unique Operator ID. This may take several business days depending on the Commission's processing time.
Enter the Operator ID in DPP Cloud
Go to Settings โ EU Registry Operator ID and enter the ID. DPP Cloud validates the format and confirms it is stored.
Your Operator ID must be configured in DPP Cloud before the EU registry goes live on 19 July 2026. Without it, live registry submissions will fail. If the registration portal is not yet open, set a reminder to check back โ DPP Cloud will notify you when it becomes available.
Where to enter it in DPP Cloud
๐ธ Settings Operator ID empty + filled
Navigate to Settings โ EU Registry Operator ID. If no Operator ID is configured, you will see an amber action banner: "Action required before July 2026." Click Add Operator ID, enter the ID, and save. The amber banner will be replaced with a green confirmation: "Operator ID configured โ ready for live registry submission from July 2026."
Who needs an Operator ID
Every organisation that submits passports to the EU registry needs its own Operator ID. If you are a manufacturer, you need one. If you are an Authorised Representative submitting on behalf of a non-EU manufacturer, both you and the manufacturer need one โ though in practice, the AR's ID is used for submission and the manufacturer's ID is recorded on the passport data.
If your organisation is already registered on other EU systems (e.g., SCIP database, EUDAMED for medical devices), you may be able to reuse your existing economic operator registration. The Commission has indicated it will work towards a single operator registration across product categories.
